Test every field at least every 3 years, more frequently for intensive cropping. Sample consistently — same time of year, same depth, same sampling pattern. Record results and recommendations together for easy reference.
A soil test results tracking log for farmers recording laboratory analysis results for each field or paddock over time. Captures pH, organic matter percentage, available nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, calcium and magnesium levels, cation exchange capacity, micronutrient status, and the lime and fertiliser recommendations derived from the results.
Soil testing is the foundation of efficient nutrient management — applying fertiliser without soil test data is guessing. Over-application wastes money and pollutes waterways. Under-application limits yield. Tracking results over years reveals trends that guide long-term soil improvement strategy.
