Controlled drug register for NHS wards recording each transaction with running balance and dual witness.
The CD register is the legal record per Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 of every receipt, administration, and destruction of Schedule 2 (and locally required Schedule 3–5) controlled drugs. Each entry records patient, drug, dose, time, nurse, witness, and running balance.
Accurate registers are inspected by the Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer and checked during CQC inspections and pharmacy audits. Discrepancies trigger immediate investigation per trust CD SOP.
