Assess each manual handling task that poses a risk of injury. Involve the workers who perform the task. Review when the task, load, or environment changes, or after any related injury.
A task-specific risk assessment form for managers and health and safety officers evaluating manual handling activities under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Systematically assesses the four risk factors — the task, the load, the working environment, and individual capability — using the TILE framework recommended in HSE guidance document L23.
Manual handling injuries account for over a third of all workplace injuries reported to HSE. Employers must assess manual handling tasks that cannot be avoided, reduce the risk of injury so far as reasonably practicable, and provide training. This form creates the documented assessment that HSE inspectors and insurers expect to see.
