Inspect every container before loading. Reject any container with holes, damaged doors, broken seals, strong odours, or visible contamination. Photograph any damage noted.
A pre-loading inspection checklist for logistics staff and container surveyors verifying that an intermodal shipping container is structurally sound, clean, dry, and suitable for the intended cargo before loading begins. Covers external structural condition, door operation and seals, floor and wall integrity, roof condition, interior cleanliness and odour, and cargo-specific suitability checks.
Loading cargo into a damaged or contaminated container risks damage, spoilage, or rejection at the destination. A leaking roof ruins the cargo, a hole in the floor fails customs inspection, and residual odour from a previous load can taint food products. This 5-minute inspection before loading prevents costly claims and delays.
